Dr. Oré Menéndez is currently taking graduate students as part of the Anthropology Department Graduate Program. Dr. Oré Menéndez ‘s advisees will be able to develop their own research projects in spatial analysis and remote sensing research as methods to answer broader research questions in anthropological archaeology. Students working with her will develop skills in computational applications to archaeological research, in particular those related to Geographical Information Sciences, satellite remote sensing, and image analysis applied to archaeology.

During their tenure at the UNLV Anthropology Department, students will be able to access state-of-the-art computational resources at the Digital Cartographies Spatial Analysis Research Lab (DCGeoLabs) and work on projects with a digital humanities and data analysis orientation as ways of engaging with the hosting communities. Dr. Oré Menéndez’s geographical and temporal research interest lay in Andean Archaeology and the late pre-Hispanic, colonial, and early republican period in Perú. In addition, her second area of research is the development of a theoretical Queer framework for Archaeology and Anthropology with an emphasis on decolonial and multivocal approaches to research.
